Neurofeedback

Neurofeedback is a direct training of brain function by which the brain learns to function more efficiently. It is based on two basic principles: that brain electrical activity reflects mental states and that this activity can be trained.

Via the use of an electroencephalogram (EEG), we are able to observe the brain in action from moment to moment. This information can then be “fed back” to the client via a computer display.  As the client’s brain responds to the feedback, so do they alter their own electrical brain function and enhance their neuroplasticity.

Throughout this process, the client is teaching their brain to self-regulate. Self-regulation is a necessary part of good brain function. It is a learned normalization of electrical activity as reflected by the EEG that allows the system to enhance it’s functionality.  This process is a gradual learning process that has implications for all conditions related to brain function.
